This is a quick update to a previous post MySQL Design and Administration Tools – Q1 2011 where I looked at the different tools available for MySQL design and administration.
This post is an interesting one and adds updates for a few of the tools:
a) PhpMyAdmin (www.phpmyadmin.net) – the web based power tool got a recent Web 2.0 upgrade so it really looks nice
b) Adminer (www.adminer.org) – has now become an essential tool in my work chest since its a single file deployment. Saves the hassles of having to log into control panels to access PhpMyAdmin
c) Quest Toad for MySQL (http://www.quest.com/toad-for-mysql/) – this is a new addition to the pack, a free tool in the Toad family which is well know in other database circles. While its style makes it more like SQL Yog, however its best feature is data comparison between two schemas. This has just proved to be a life saver on a project where we had to keep merging production data with out rapidly changing development schema.
