Goodbye Leslie Nielsen

Leslie, it was a pleasure watching you all through my teen age days. Your style of comedy was old-skool, spring fresh and just plain hilarious.

Police Squad, Naked Gun, Naked Gun 21/2, Naked Gun 33 1/3 were the highlights of my youth movie scene. Watching them over and over again was a Saturday night treat.

May your soul rest in Eternal peace

A loving fan

Ooma Telo – A Revolution in VOIP Calls

Well it has been quite long since I last wrote over here, well travel, then catching up with projects and family have been the highlight of the last few weeks.

One interesting take back is the VOIP phone from Ooma ( Its just a hub that plugs into a broadband connection and provides a US number. Unlike Magic Jack ( and Skype To Go ( which require your computer to be on all the time, Ooma is just a plug and play into your network. It also allows a fall back to traditional landline (an additional monthly fee).

For a one time payment, it is an welcome addition to VOIP. 90% of end users will plug and play, however caution is that you plug it straight into your internet modem or router for best performance

Its inbuilt Quality of Service (QoS) feature enables high quality voice calls on slow DSL links, 384kbps. For faster connections, you can even have PureHD quality voice calls.

For those with more complex routing needs, you can configure Ooma with a static IP address or DHCP

Fathers Day

A wise man once told me, marriage has many pains attached to it but celibacy has no pleasures.

Parenthood is similar, many pains and challenges, but the rewards are so precious. A picture is worth a thousand words so I will say no more

Happy Fathers day to all u dads out there, its worth it every day

PHP Externalization of Messages

As part of a project we are involved in there is a need for externalization of messages, both error and labels from the application into an external file.

From within Java, this is available as message and resource bundles, and the Spring framework smoothens this process.

In PHP this is another story, as the options are:

a) gettetxt –

b) Zend Translate –

Since this is not a very large application, we will be using ini files with the message keys encoded as english strings based on analysis at

I will see how that one proceeds along

World Cup Starts Today

Well the World cup ceremonies have started and everyone is pretty excited about the games to be played in South Africa.

The web is awash with tools to visualize the results, schedules, and stadiums. It will be interesting to see how all this pans out
